Surrey Hills and Mont Albert Stations and Level Crossing Removals

Mont Albert and Surrey Hills Weekly Works Update 26 June 2023 on Big Build Website

Level crossings removals at Union Road Surrey Hills and Mont Albert Road Mont Albert

have now been replaced with a single Union superstation midway between them in a formerly quiet residential area.

Union Station officially opened on 22 May 2023 with train services running to an updated timetable from 28 May. Final works will not be completed until late in 2023.

Key Issues for Residents and Local Traders during Construction

  • Many local businesses in Mont Albert and Surrey Hills were forced to close due to poor accessibility and lack of parking for local residents.

  • State government lack of communication with and blatant disregard for residents

  • Residents were not given permission to see the final plans for the Union station, which is only metres from many people's homes.

  • Total destruction of the 100 year old Lorne Parade park

  • Destruction of hundreds of significant trees, including from Lorne Parade park and local streets and from the Churchill Road Avenue of Honour

  • Local traders suffering from loss of business

  • Loss of amenity in local streets, including residents not being able to access their own driveways.
